A gel manicure is a manicure that uses gel to bind the synthetic polish to the nail.

Due to odor associated with acrylic nails a gel manicure is often preferred. Gel nails are healthier and more natural because they do not consist of the acid that acrylic nails do. Additionally, a gel manicure tends to look more natural, the gel nails are more flexible, and bond naturally to the nail. The gel fingernails stay shiny longer than acrylic nails.

Just like any regular manicure the nails are filed and the cuticles are pushed back. The Nails are buffed allowing the gel to adhere more strongly. Next a gel “polish” coat is brushed on each nail. Next is a 30 seconds drying under a UV Light. A second coat is brushed on and allowed to dry for 30 seconds. At the end of the gel nail manicure the nails are completely dry. It is perfectly ok to dig around in your pocket book to get your keys out of because you will not ruin the gel nail manicure.

The Gel manicure will last for at least two weeks. Do not worry if you notice peeling on the sides, this is normal and the gel will not completely peel off. One downside to the gel nail was the effort it took to remove the gel polish.

You will need a removal gel nail kit to do it yourself at home. You will need to wrap each nail with a small piece of cotton soaked in acetone polish remover for 10-15 minutes.
