Preparing your nails through Filing and Buffing

Note: Before beginning your in-home manicure, you should get rid of germs and bacteria that may be on your metal tools by placing them in an antiseptic solution for  fifteen minutes. An alternative method is to wash them in your dishwasher.

  • To begin remove your old polish.
  • You should fill the nails with a side to side motion always in one direction. Never file the nail in a motion that is side to side.
  • Shape your nails into oval tips after filing the nail you need to Buff the surface of the fingernail.
  • Soak the nails in a small bowl of soapy, warm water or cuticle cream to soften the cuticles.
  • To remove cuticles gently loosen them and remove them with a cuticle remover or an orange wood stick.

Painting and Decorating

  • Let your nails completely dry for about 30 minutes. You should not go to bed with wet polish.
  • If you are in a hurry you can harden your nail polish quickly by running your nails under cold water.
  • If your favorite nail polish color is getting thick due to age you can add a small amount of polish thinner or remover to thin it.
